About Us...

Based in Herne Bay and founded in 1942 by Muriel Hasland, the Hasland Dance Studios (HDS) is one of Kent's longest running and best known dance schools. Voted the 2015 'Dance School of the Year' by the Dance Teacher Hub Awards, which covers the whole of the UK, Gold Award winners of the Anne Walker Dance School of the Year Awards 2017 and finalists in 2018 from entries across the UK and Europe, we are also one of a very small number of Kent dance schools to be accredited with 'Recognised School Status' by the Council of Dance Education and Training, reflecting our high standards of dance education as well as our commitment to the safety of our students.

We believe that every child deserves the chance to dance!  With classes from toddlers who are just walking right through to adults, in Ballet, Modern, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, Street, Acrobatic Arts and Musical Theatre we have something to suit everyone.

We host Tiny Toes classes for toddlers and pre-schoolers on a Monday morning run by Miss Jess. Please click here to follow Tiny Toes on Instagram. At 2.5 years, students can join our Nursery Ballet class on a Saturday morning. They progress through Pre-Primary, Primary, Grades 1-8 and vocational classes at Inter Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Our Tap and Modern classes begin at Pre-Primary and Grade 1 level respectively, progressing through Primary (for Tap), Grade 1-6, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Our Street and Musical Theatre classes are on a Saturday for those who attend school. Our ‘Jazz/Stretch’ classes help our students develop their flexibility, strength and Jazz technique. Our Contemporary and Acro classes are an exciting addition to the timetable. Acro is available for all who have started school, and Contemporary is available to all Ballet and Modern students in Grade 1 and above.

For adults, we run weekday evening classes in Advanced Tap.

Teaching at HDS

The standard of teaching at HDS is extremely high. Our Artistic Director, Anna Morgan, has her Fellowship with the ISTD and teaches at the prestigious Bird College of Dance, a professional training college. Anna also runs Anna Morgan Dance and her own teacher-training college from our studios. Within our Ballet Faculty, we have RAD qualified teachers who have danced professionally at the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet companies. All our other Ballet, Tap, Modern, Street, Acro, Contemporary and Musical Theatre teachers are well qualified and many have danced professionally at the highest level, placing HDS in the unique position of being able to offer classes both to suit students wishing to dance as a hobby, right through to vocational students preparing to graduate to professional training colleges and a career in the dance industry.
